Late-night madness returns to the Chattanooga Theatre Center

Shaking Ray Levi Society Presents: Frank Pahl

Late Bloomers and the Shaking Ray Levi Society are teaming up again to present cult artist and musical legend Frank Pahl on July 20, 11 pm at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre.

Both as a solo artist and with his groups Only A Mother and the Scavenger Quartet, Pahl works with neglected acoustic instruments (including the euphonium, a smaller version of the tuba), the harmonium and the ukelele, along with “homemade automatons” to create a sound like nothing else.

Citing influences as diverse as Neil Young, Henry Mancini and Ukelele Ike Edwards, Pahl has released a number of albums prized by underground music collectors, such as “Cowboy Disciple” and “In Cahoots” (solo) and “Whistling for Leftovers” (with the Scavenger Quartet).

Says Late Bloomers producer Janis Hashe, “We are always honored and frequently astonished to work with Bob Stagner and the Shaking Rays. Having Frank in the ‘Summer of Love’ series is really a coup for us. Besides, we are all long-time euphonium fans. Who isn’t?”
